I came to pursue a career in mental health after working many types of jobs in which I noticed the common thread was my interest in understanding and helping people. I went to San Francisco State University to study psychology, and then earned my masters degree in counseling from CSU Long Beach in 2008. From there I went on to gain experience working with people of all ages, various challenges, and many walks of life. In school-based settings I have counseled preschool through high school aged children, including kids with disabilities, and others considered high-risk. Through non-profit agencies I have provided therapy to couples, families, and individuals coping with big life transitions, grief and loss, mental and physical illness, incarceration, addiction, and trauma. Since establishing my private practice, I have continued to enjoy working with children, teenagers, and adults of all ages and navigating a wide range of issues.
Through my journey as a clinician, I have become even more passionate about the healing and transformation that can take place in the safety and nurturance of a professional, therapeutic relationship. I believe that each and every one of us possesses the capacity to know peace, but that it is not uncommon, unfortunately, to become disconnected from ourselves and our innate wisdom. The challenges we face, whether fundamental or situational, can be overwhelming. I believe that it is not only okay to get support, but that seeking professional help is an act of resilience and self-compassion. Sitting with my clients as they uncover their truths and become more and more skilled at self-care is endlessly inspiring, and an honor I can't do justice with words.
My goal is to sit with clients in a way that cultivates insight which allows one to make sense of past experiences. Insight can also lend to a better understanding of the relationship between thoughts, feelings and behaviors. Modality-wise, I can best be described as a therapist who draws from Depth Psychology and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. That being said, I believe that the strength of the relationship between therapist and client is far more indicative of a successful outcome than any one specific therapeutic orientation. I always prioritize safety and emphasize the importance of healthy coping skills. My guiding mission is to provide a space for my clients wherein they have the opportunity to experience the liberation of self-discovery, gain the tools necessary to remove any obstacles they might find, and be empowered to move intentionally in the direction of their choosing.
If you have any questions about me, my experience, or the way I work with clients, I would love to hear them. Please feel free to give me a call or send me an email.
